Minton plate made for Tiffany & Co.
Minton - 1872
This particularly unusual plate, dated 1872, with its burst of hand painted roses and raised turquoise and white enamel border was made for the iconic New York department store, Tiffany & Co. Tiffany were a huge client of the Minton factory who provided wares of the highest calibre to furnish the houses of the American Gilded Age.
The combination of decoration on this piece fits perfectly with its date and shows us another example of Minton combining eastern influences, as shown by the border, and classic English taste, the roses, on the same piece.
Minton’s porcelains were admired the world over and commissions came into the factory from countries as far away as the USA, India and Japan.
