£395.00Price

Murrle Bennett & Co. - c.1900

This stunning brooch by Merrle Bennett & Co. is a showpiece of Art Nouveau design. Made c. 1900 out of 9ct gold it features two large peridots and a small pearl.

The main bar of the brooch is made of delicate scrolling Art Nouveau foliage which surrounds the smaller of the two central periods. This stone is an Asscher cut shape and is held in place by four double claws, the whole setting then surmounted by a small pearl.

Beneath the main bar is the larger emerald cut period that is held in traditional claw setting to allow for the maximum amount of light to penetrate the stone. The setting is attached to the brooch by a small loop allowing the lower stone to move freely.

Merrle Bennett & Co. were specialists in Art Nouveau design and were at the forefront of fashionable taste at the turn of the last century.

Hallmarks: The back of the brooch bears the stamp, 'MB' for Merrle Bennett and Co. and 9ct.

Weight: 10 grams

Condition: The piece is in very good original condition, some light tarnishing and age related surface wear but not damage. There are some inclusions visible in the smaller peridot.
