Pair of turquoise 'witches heart' earrings
c. 1890
This delightful pair of earrings are modelled on the very popular shape of a Witch's Heart. Witch's Hearts were worn in past centuries to protect against evil and have since become a popular feature of jewellery, particularly in the 19th century.
These earrings are hinged in two places with a 1.5cm pierced arrow shaped section between the hook and the hearts. The Hearts are 1cm in length and rounded in shape at the back giving a lovely 3D quality. On the front of the heart are three small turquoises set in a shamrock motif. They hang 4m below the ear.
Weight: 5 grams
Marks: They are stamped on the side of the arrow shaped bar - 9ct
Condition: Both in excellent condition with original tops and a good patina. Slight signs of wear.
