Royal Worcester aesthetic period vase
Royal Worcester - 1880
It’s unusual shape and decoration are inspired by Chinese porcelain, all be it with a very European spin. The gold, platinum and bronze bamboo and prunus emphasises the eastern connections, the whole spirit being in the popular Aesthetic Movement.
Parts of the design are finished with raised and tooled gilding, particularly the butterfly, a skill that was only attempted by the top factories. Dusted and handpainted gilding are also employed to finish the overall look.
