Royal Worcetser ewer with a dragon handle

Royal Worcester - 1891
This charming example of the late aesthetic style with the painted flowers is perhaps hinting at the coming Art Nouveau. The cream coloured ground is classic of Royal Worcester in this period and although slightly different to the 'blush' colour they develeoped it is very soft and works well with the muted tones of the painting.
The gilt dragon is beautifully modelled with details picked out in a deeper bronze tone. Western art often picked details from eastern art and although giving them a very European flavour they do pay tribute to the cultural originals.
Condition: Minor wear to the gilding at the tip of the spout, otherwise excellent.
