This highly unusual silver and tortoiseshell thermometer still retains its original easel, brass face and is in full working order.
The descriptions on the dial of the different temperatures are of particular note.
The silver is hallmarked at the bottom of the repousse overlay in amongst the design.
Condition: The mercury thermometer appears to have been replaced and is missing one of its fastenings at the bottom of the piece. The silver is intact and has all the original pins however one is protruding slightly. There is light age related ware to the tortoiseshell, particularly on the reverse.
