Wileman Foley trio
Wileman Foley - c.1894-1910
The lovely trio is a wonderful example of the earlier aesthetic style.
The delicate way the gold is removed to reveal the underglaze cobalt blue decoration beneath is superb and you can see it was done by hand as each revealed vignette is slightly different.
Wileman we’re heavily invested in their use of transfer printing and the cobalt swallows and flowers show their take on the Aesthetic movement. This trio dates to the end of the 19th century so although late for the true aesthetic movement it demonstrates the style's longevity and lasting impact.
It is similar in design to Coalport’s Japanese Grove pattern and is produced using the same technique. Coalport’s iconic pattern was also priced from the 19th into the 20th century.
Condition: Some minor wear to the gilding on the handle.
